Once upon a time there was a tool my Mac-using friends would tell me they used to create their websites. When I began this website builder review series, I went hunting for it and it appears it is gone. However, there is a service that says they have a website builder tool designed for Mac users. It’s called MacWebsiteBuilder. Yep. We’re going that literal today, folks.
Industry Specific?
They offer a bunch of templates that are customizable to any industry, like most website builder tools.
Pricing
MacWebsiteBuilder does what I like: they offer a 10-day free trial. Yay!
They do not appear to have pricing tiers. However, you can go month to month or sign up for a yearly account. Month-to-month is $24.98/month and if you sign up for a year at a time, it is $21.98/year.
Would you like some free help preparing for your site? Cool. Here’s a free download I created just for you.
Mobile?
It’s not mentioned anywhere, and when I pulled up a sample site it wasn’t responsive, so that means “no.”
In What Browser Does the Website Builder Work?
It doesn’t say, so I’ll go with the assumption that it works in the most modern browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, and IE 10. The majority of builders don’t say anything about this; because of this, I’m giving everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Search Engine Optimization?
You can modify meta tags, create and submit a sitemap, and you get site tracking stats from within the website builder’s interface. They use HitsLink instead of Google Analytics.
Blog Features?
It’s not mentioned and the sample site I looked at has its blog at a different URL, so this also looks like a feature that is lacking with this tool.
Ease of Use
There’s no drag and drop editor statements, there no screen shot or demo video of their tool in action. I have no clue what to expect with this website builder tool.
Use Your Own URL?
Yes.
My Initial Impression
MacWebsiteBuilder is probably an adequate tool, but missing the responsive/mobile website feature and the blog feature are big issues in today’s website community. Also, their big claim to fame is how awesome they are for Mac users, but there’s nothing that convinces me to use them over another service if I am a Mac user. They look like the majority of website builders, nothing special.
