Today I’m reviewing a website builder from InMotion Hosting, a company that clearly offers more than just website builders… Like, the website builder isn’t even on their main navigation. Didn’t I just do this yesterday with dismal things to say? I’m trying to block it out of my mind, but yes, I did. Sigh. Okay, InMotion Hosting, prove to me that someone out there who offers lots of products can do an amazing job selling their website builder. C’mon, make my day.
Industry Specific?
They have many templates, for many industries, so they aren’t partial to a particular industry. That’s normal. They have three thumbnails of what I can only assume are examples of their templates. They, however, are not clickable to a template gallery or example sites, or nothin’. Dismal.
Pricing
There are three pricing tiers. There is no free trial or free tier. They don’t seem really keen on letting people sign up for less than six months, and that is only an option for the most expensive plan. Their plans run as little as $5.99/month to as much as $17.99/month. Their pricing tier details are quite brief at the page I found by clicking “get started now.” However, if you dig around elsewhere on the site, there’s a bunch of details about their hosting. All website hosting plans get the website builder automatically. And, they offer a 90-day money-back guarantee. This is all good to know. All of their “sign up” pages should have this info, right?
Would you like some free help preparing for your site? Cool. Here’s a free download I created just for you.
Mobile?
This is a first. Mobile isn’t mentioned, but Flash Intros are. Umm, perhaps it is time to revisit this tool, InMotion. Just maybe. For those that don’t know, Flash generally doesn’t play on mobile devices and is typically very unfriendly to search engines. We want our websites to love search engines and mobile devices, right?
In What Browser Does the Website Builder Work?
It doesn’t say, so I’ll go with the assumption that it works in the most modern browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, and IE 10.
Search Engine Optimization?
They claim their websites are search engine friendly. They don’t explain why they are. I need more details about this, especially after mentioning Flash intros.
Blog Features?
Yes.
Ease of Use
They say it is super easy. They compare it to using Microsoft Word. There’s no mention of drag and drop and guess what? There’s no demo of their tool in any form.
Use Your Own URL?
Because they sell hosting and domains, I am going with “yes.” They don’t state this specifically, but I am pretty sure about this. Wouldn’t it be cool if I didn’t have to guess?
My Initial Impression
So… They want me to sign up on faith alone that I will like their product. I get to commit to at least six months with my money with no free trial to check out the tool ahead of time. This is unlike most dedicated website builders who have been clobbered on this issue in the past and figured out they kinda needed to do some sort of free offering to get people in the door. I’m wishing there was so much more at this site to make me happy and care about the website builder product. There’s not. And since there are so many other website builders trying so much harder to get my attention, I’ll probably forget these folks exist before I have published this post.
