Trying to decide what to blog about can drive a person crazy, especially when you are on your own, alone at your computer, wishing there was a way to guarantee that someone out there will love what you write. Sometimes when starting a blog, it is easy. The ideas flow. And then one day you’ve written all those ideas, published the blogs posts, and suddenly you are staring at a blank screen, not sure of what worked best on your blog or what people would like more of. In both of these cases, it would be really nice if you could have a roadmap to your next piece of content. That’s why I love Google Analytics and I especially love Google Search Console.
Want to Know What People are Looking for Online?
You Want Google Search Console.
If you’re wondering, Google Search Console used to be called Google Webmaster Tools. It used to be called Google Webmaster Tools because you get a bunch of information about your website through this tool, such as if your site has been indexed by Google and if there are crawling errors. However, Google Search Console also gives valuable insight into what is happening in relation to your website and web searches, which is a goldmine to help you figure out what to blog about next. This is because when your site is connected through Google Search Console, you get an amazing amount of information about what people are looking for online in relation to your blog’s content and when you tie it to your Google Analytics account, you can connect that information to what your blog readers and potential blog readers (this part is really important) are doing while searching the Google and what they do when they get to your website or blog.
Want to Know the Search Terms that Get Your Site to Show in Google?
You Want Google Search Console.
Imagine knowing how many times your site came up for your target term and variations of that term. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that Google is actually showing your site for your target term(s)? Wouldn’t it also be nice to know how many times you actually received visits to your website for those terms? And by “variations,” I mean involved phrases. This information allow you to find out the questions people are searching for and write articles to answer those questions if you haven’t already.
Wouldn’t it also be nice to know what pages on your website show up in search results and how many times those pages get clicks? The pages that are getting clicks are ones where I’d be sure to add in an opt-in offer related to that content. I’d also review those pages to see what else I can write related to those pages to add more value.
Want to Create Better Content and be of Better Services to Your Readers?
You Want Google Search Console.
With all of that information, you can make more of what people want and less of what isn’t working. You can also find out how effective your efforts are when trying to rank for new terms.
Another super valuable thing you can discover when using Google Search Console are terms you had no idea you are ranking for. These might be terms for which you are getting clicks that you’d be happy to write more content for if you only knew that people were searching for those terms in the first place. This type of information can be a breath of fresh air when you feel like you’ve exhausted all you can write about in one area.
