Today’s website builder tool review is of Name.com’s Page Zen.
Name.com’s Page Zen has a video to introduce their product. They even have a real, live human talking to you in the video. The video quickly mentions a number of their features and you can see glimpses of the product in action behind the the person talking. It’s fun! It’s interesting! Now, let’s see what I can really find out from their product’s home page.
Industry Specific?
The Page Zen website building tool appears to be good for any industry. I am guessing this to be true because they seem to be addressing the masses in their video and on their home page. I would love to see sample sites created with their tool but there aren’t any. I would love to be able to click on the few sample templates at the bottom of the landing page, but I can’t, so I have to go off of the impression I get from the template thumbnails. Grr…
Pricing
According to their video (but not stated anywhere else on the page), you can have a one-page site for free. After that, you can either pay for a five-page site or unlimited pages. How much does this cost, you ask? Yeah, I would like to know, too. I can’t find it anywhere.
Mobile?
Don’t know.
Would you like some free help preparing for your site? Cool. Here’s a free download I created just for you.
In What Browser Does the Website Builder Work?
It doesn’t say, but most don’t, so they get a pass here.
Search Engine Optimization?
There’s mention of seeing visitor stats. That’s it. No mention of unique meta information per page or if the stats can be from Google Analytics.
Blog Features?
The video says you can blog with this tool.
Ease of Use
They say there’s drag and drop features. From the video, I can see it looks easy. It looks a lot like WordPress, but apparently has drag and drop features.
Use Your Own URL?
I get the impression you can, because if you start the process with them, the first thing you need to do is select a domain name.
My Initial Impression
Remember how a couple days ago I said something about big companies with lots of products typically have a harder time doing lots of things really, really well? Right. Well, here we are again. This *might* be an amazing tool. This might have all the features and then some that I would swoon over, but how would I know? There’s no “features” list or any further explanation about the few things they mention on their website builder’s landing page and in their nifty video. Now, I get the impression that the folks over at Name.com are pretty cool and could whip up a features page pretty easily, thus making way for me to have another glance at their product and probably end up saying super nice things about them. But until that time, there are many unanswered questions I have about this product. I know Name.com has many products, but in order for me to believe I am in good hands with them for their website builder product, I have to see that they care enough to show me under the hood from the beginning, before I engage with my dollars or time, to know what I do and don’t get.
