Because Wendi thought she might want to switch stuff around a lot on her site, Wendi needed a flexible design. When we worked on her site I knew budget was a high focus; we needed to change her site to be mobile-friendly but we couldn’t over-indulge in design and customization.Watch this video about Wendi’s website update or read the project details below.
Wendi is a solopreneur midwife who doesn’t do tech but has a ton of offerings in her business that she wants to share on her website, freedomandtheseed.com. If it weren’t for Google’s mobile-friendly update in April 2015, we wouldn’t have updated her site. But since Wendi didn’t want to risk the possibility of not showing up in search results on Google, we had to update to a mobile-friendly website theme.
Midwives traditionally have crazy schedules, so we had to move fast; we created this site in one sitting. And lastly, she loved her previous site and really, really didn’t want to change a thing about its appearance, so bringing over as much of the previous site’s look as possible was a super high priority.
The result: In one Together Build session, we found a theme that we could easily change around in the future without much effort while bringing over the core feel from her original site. An additional benefit is that Wendi can now edit all of her site instead of just her blog. This turned out to be something that she has taken full advantage of since her new site launch, and it has been super easy for her to do.
Because Wendi had all of her content in place before we began working together and because she had her vision of her site crystal clear, we only needed one Together Build™ session to launch her new site (which is a record, by the way). During this session we chose her theme, moved her blog into her main website, set up her home page, and customized the appearance to include a header that felt a lot like her old site and we brought in colors from her brand. Voila! A new website in an afternoon. Amazing.
